March 10, 2005

PRETEC Introduces C-Flash Next Generation Super Small Flash Memory Card HANOVER, Germany (March 10, 2005) - PRETEC Electronics Corp., creator of the smallest USB flash drive in the world since 2002, is introducing today a new generation of flash memory card and module, C-Flash, at CeBIT 2005 (Hall 23, D30) in Hanover.

With physical size of 17mm x 12mm x 1.0mm, about 1/3 the volume of RS-MMC or miniSD, C-Flash is one of the smallest form factor flash memory cards in the world. Taking advantage of the built-in smart card (SIM card) support, multimedia mobile phones utilizing C-Flash will require a smaller footprint for the memory card allowing for new designs not previously possible with existing memory card formats. Multiple interface functions such as MMC/SD and USB make C-Flash the most versatile flash memory card in the world. Supporting the most popular high capacity flash IC today such as those from Micron, Renesas, Samsung and Toshiba, C-Flash supports the widest range of flash sources for any small form factor card.

Capable to support MU-Card, a specification from greater China lead by Mu-Card Alliance of OMIA (Open Mobile Internet Alliance), with capacity up to 2048GB (500 times of MMC capacity) and transfer speed up to 120MB/s (10 times of SD speed), C-Flash has been adopted by Mu-Card Alliance as the next small form factor of MU-Card (called MU-Flash). Pretec is currently sampling 128MB C-Flash to major mobile phone makers, with capacity of 1GB available by Q2 of 2005. Mobile phones with C-Flash bundling will be in the market start from Q3 of 2005.

Pretec will also offer various adapters for C-Flash such as SD, miniSD, MMC, RS-MMC and USB; users can buy only one flash card, C-Flash, and at the same time be able to use different mobile devices such as DSC, mobile phone, MP3, PDA, etc. with various interfaces (SD, miniSD, MMC, RS-MMC, USB).

C-Flash has also been submitted to MMCA to be considered as the next small form factor standard of MMC. According to Gartner Dataquest report, MMC will become #1 form factor of flash memory card in 2005, with market share projection of 34% (SD 30% and memory Stick 20%).
