Sunnyvale, CA, November 15, 2005 Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced a significant boost in its mobile hard disk drive market presence in the third calendar quarter of 2005. During the period ended September 30, Fujitsu increased its mobile unit shipments for the thirteenth consecutive quarter to 4.9M units, a jump of over 50% from the same quarter last year (3CQ04). In addition, Fujitsu shipped 1.2M enterprise hard disk drives, sustaining its position as the second largest supplier of enterprise hard disk drives in the industry.
"Fujitsu is pleased to announce another outstanding quarter," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "Fujitsu's leading edge technology, superior quality and customer satisfaction continue to exceed industry expectations and strengthen our position in the hard disk drive market."
The continued growth by Fujitsu in the mobile hard disk drive market is an attribute to their innovation and manufacturing strengths. This past August, accumulated shipments of Fujitsu 2.5" hard disk drives of 100GB or more exceeded 1M units, attesting to the companys leadership in high capacity SATA and PATA products. In addition, the company continued to push the envelope of SATA technology advancement with the introduction of next generation 2.5" 120GB SATA and 2.5" 160GB SATA hard disk drives. Fujitsu also expanded its mobile hard disk drive sales into all of the top original equipment manufactures (OEMs), as well as their key NOEM/Channel accounts.
The first to bring Small Form Factor (SFF) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drives to the enterprise market, Fujitsu has been delivering 2.5" SAS products to major OEMs since 1CQ05. The new form factor interface combination allows users to significantly increase input-output performance by increasing storage density while decreasing power consumption. Fujitsu is now working on integrating its Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)-compliant SAS, Parallel SCSI and Fibre Channel enterprise hard disk drives to meet increased OEM and distribution channel demands.
"Fujitsus progress in the hard disk drive industry, in both the enterprise and mobile segments, is reflected by its unit shipment growth of 34% year over year. This growth can be attributed directly to the companys focus on advancing hard disk drive technology and durability," said John Rydning, research manager, hard disk drives & components, IDC. "Continued commitment to innovation and execution through future technology transitions will enable Fujitsu to compete effectively in an increasingly competitive HDD market."
