TOKYO & LONDON - OKI Printing Solutions (the brand name of OKI Data Corporation) today announced a technological breakthrough that will allow the Japanese market to print in color on unwoven paper with two of the company's leading A3 LED color page printers, the C9600 and C9800.
The light and flexible paper, known as 'Excellent Soft', feels like fabric/ Japanese paper, and will for the first time allow users to create printing materials such as calendars, placemats and wrapping paper on a conventional color page printer, without blurring the Japanese characters or causing paper jams.
Printing on unwoven paper had previously only been possible with an offset printer from a print shop, however OKI Printing Solutions has succeeded in optimizing the inner fixing temperature control and toner transcription rate of the C9600 and C9800 printers, so that toner is transferred and fixed onto the unwoven paper using heat.
Mikihiko Maeno, President and CEO for Oki Data Corporation, says: "Each day we are striving for innovative ways to help meet the many and varied needs of our business customers. As a business printing solutions specialist we appreciate that businesses are not always going to want to print on ordinary paper in black and white, and that each day people are demanding the ability to print in color on a range of different media. We are dedicated to expanding the possibilities of on--demand printing on our range of color LED printers and look forward to what the future brings."
'Excellent Soft Paper' is currently only available in Japan but the company plans to release globally in the future.
