Sunnyvale, CA, (February 21, 2006) Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the worlds leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced its fourth quarter hard disk drive shipment results. During the period ended December 31, Fujitsu increased its mobile unit shipments for the fourteenth consecutive quarter to 5.1M units, an increase of over 22% from the same quarter last year (4CQ04). In addition, Fujitsu shipped 1.2M enterprise hard disk drives, up slightly over the previous quarter.
"2005 was a great year for the Fujitsu hard disk drive business, and we are very pleased with the shipment numbers from the fourth quarter," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "The continued focus and dedication in conjunction with high quality products, strong customer relationships, and technology leadership resulted in another record quarter. Fujitsu is well positioned and looking forward to continued success in 2006."
Year over year Fujitsu has continued its success by delivering high performing, reliable hard disk drives and the fourth quarter was no exception. In both the mobile and enterprise arenas Fujitsu strengthened relationships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and channel partners to increase sales and advance its position as the favored provider of Serial hard disk drive technology.
In the mobile drive market, Fujitsu clearly maintained its position as a leading provider of 100GB, 120GB and 160GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drives with impressive shipments of its high-capacity SATA products. Fujitsu also grew shipments of its industry-leading Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) enterprise hard disk drives, with its 2.5" SAS hard disk drives now shipping in volume.
"Worldwide hard disk drive unit shipments have sustained steady growth over the last few years, particularly in the mobile 2.5" market where unit shipments rose by a compound annual growth rate of 33% per year since 2002," said John Rydning, research manager for hard disk drives, IDC. "Since Fujitsus decision in 2001 to focus on enterprise and mobile hard disk drive markets, it has consistently increased its annual unit shipments and improved its overall market position."
