PrintFIX is a new way of obtaining color profiles of printers without the tedious task of creating and printing color patches, organizing, and then measuring them with a special additional spectrocolorimeter. PrintFIX PLUS is part of the actual PrintFIX PRO application, and for more elaborate or professional uses, ColorVision recommends upgrading to the professional version. Using PrintFIX PRO, you have the included spectrocolorimeter, which enables the creation of your own custom profiles. In a situation where you have a printer which is unique or not commonly found within the imaging market, you would probably choose the PRO version because the profiles pre-selected by ColorVision may not be correct when you print them out on your printer. There also might be a situation where you use very unusual papers for your prints due to your specific style of photography and artistic expression, and in this case, you would certainly need a spectrocolorimeter to capture the proper colors being printed on the unique paper.
So, in case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of factors when calibrating, and it's not just exclusive to your monitor. If you print, you need to make sure the output matches what you see on your monitor. What's nice about today's digital imaging devices, is you can save your work which can be recalled in a matter of a few clicks of your mouse.
