A few directors have really shined over the years with a return to what they do best. James Cameron and his passion with Avatar, and in this review of Prometheus, we see Ridley Scott's passion. As we follow the origins of Prometheus, we find out it certainly pays off for the viewer when the director goes back to their roots. Prometheus is going to be the first film of a prequel trilogy to Alien. It should go without saying too much about the Alien series, but it will help the viewer if there is a familiarity with it, as Prometheus has key scenes which will stand out more. Ridley Scott has tried to avoid combining the Alien Series with the Prometheus series, and justifiably so. Prometheus, while related to Alien, is headed on a different track.

4-Disc Collector's Edition

This particular edition of Prometheus includes a Blu-ray 3D version, and includes a bonus disc of extras (and its within these extras, that I highly recommend viewing as they are surprisingly essential to understanding more about ties to the other Alien films). This was pretty much the reason why I purchased this version, given this edition falls within $5 of the 2-Disc version. This extra Blu-ray Features disc contains a nine-chapter 3.5-hour documentary, covering a lot of material.

The Plot

In 2089, just off the shores of Scotland and on the Isle of Skye, Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and her team discover clues to the origins of humans. In late December of 2093, the Prometheus, along with Shaw and 16 other crew members, arrives at an undisclosed moon, LV-223...about 35 light years from Earth.

The mission is being funded by Weyland Corporationa, and Peter Weyland has a massive financial interest in seeking answers. Mission Director Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) has explicit directions from Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), but also realizes there might be other motives at work. Janek (Idris Elba) is the Captain of the Prometheus, is mission-centered focus, and has the capability to keep the crew in line with their work and outcome.

The Prometheus is a highly technological ship. David (Michael Fassbender) is the android interface for operations that humans could not necessarily conduct, and David receives orders from those who are authorized. David also has the capability to reason.
